I can't believe it

Well, yesterday at about noon, I finally finished the configuration of the new backbone routers for work. So there's 6 physical routers. 4 Nortel and 2 Cisco. On these we have about 24 different interfaces configured to do all of our failover. It's a pretty trick setup. It takes about 40 seconds to failover from our Gigabit connection to the dual T1's and failback is almost instantaneous.

After 6 months of being able to work on it here and there, it's hard to believe we got it done at all. In my department, we never get to work on something until it's done. It's always, start it, get to a stopping point, don't touch it for 2-3 weeks, come back to it, remember everything you were doing before, and resume. Repeat this over 6 months on just about every project you can think of.

Ah well, it's done.

Oh and Malibu can read your mind.

Goddamn. CABLE MODEM AND DIGITAL CABLE TV IS THE BEST THING EVER!

Ahem. Ok, now that that is out of my system. I can't believe how much normal network TV sucks on the weekend. Now that I have ~300 channels of digital goodness, I should be able to save some money by doing "naddagawdamnedthing".

Not that I was spending a ton, just more than I was used to for a few months there.

Its so badass. I used to be in a small room with a ton of loud shit (aka my network lab). Now all that chaos is in the kitchen. I ran a cat-5 drop from the kitchen to the living room/office where my desk is. All of it is now connected to UPS, no more pesky power outages shutting my stuff down without notice. The wireless access point gets installed tomorrow after I get home from work.
